Papi Strong

Papi Strong

June 19, 2019

I'd like to take a few minutes to talk about David Ortiz, our beloved Big Papi, and the a-holes who tried to take his life! I absolutely cannot comprehend why anyone would want to hurt this man! On the night of Sunday June 9th, while most of us were watching the Boston Bruins in game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals, news emerged that David Ortiz, the former slugger of the Boston Red Sox, had been shot at a bar in the Dominican Republic. The city of Boston, and fans around the world, held it's breath as we waited for more information. This man is a legend in Boston, not only on the baseball field but in the community as well. From putting a smile on everyone's faces during games, to being a beast on the field, to the many charitable events he put on for New England as well as the Dominican Republic.

The news has just announced that Ortiz was not the intended target of the shooting but how do you mistake him for anyone else?! I think these scumbags are afraid of what will happen to them if they are convicted of the attempted murder of the heart and soul of Boston Sports and they're trying to find a way out of it now. After the driver of the scooter that carried the gunman was brutally (and deservedly) beaten down they should be afraid! If the people of the Dominican Republic defend Big Papi like that just imagine what would happen if someone from our city got a hold of one of the suspects!

On April 15, 2013 our city was the victim of a senseless attack during the annual Boston Marathon that took the lives of 3 people and injured hundreds of others. The entire city, along with our sports teams and athletes came together to show support. Three days later images of the suspects (Dzhokhar Anzorovich Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan Anzorovich Tsarnaev ) were released and a day after that the city was shut down to carry out an unprecedented manhunt! Boston was not going to let them get away. We became Boston Strong as law enforcement and citizens alike did what they could to make sure these men were caught! Before the Red Sox first home game after the attack, Ortiz addressed the crowd with his now famous line "this is our fucking city and nobody gonna dictate our freedom!". He gave hope to the city and reminded us that we will do anything to take care of our own.

Now we must do the same for him! This is our fucking Papi and nobody gonna take him away from us!
